GOSHEN CONSERVATION COMMISSION

MINUTES-AUGUST 5, 2009

 

 

CALL TO ORDER: Chairman John Ross called the meeting to order at 7:34 P.M.

 

ATTENDANCE: John Ross, Joan Lang, Anders Nygren, Barnett Laschever and Audra Allen.

Absent, Barry Donaldson and Chris Marino.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: MOTION MADE BY Anders Nygren seconded by Barnett Laschever to approve the minutes of the July 1, 2009 CC Meeting.  No discussion on the minutes, SO VOTED.

 

OLD BUSINESS: Trail Maintenance – John Ross and Anders Nygren walked the Goshen Land Trust and Town of Goshen Trail on East Street South and re-marked the shortcut trail.  They were pleased to report that it looked like the trail was being well used.  Weeding was also done around the Richard Kobylenski Memorial site.

 

Perennial bed maintenance – Anders Nygren reported that he had contacted Donna Grenier relative to the weeding of the beds and any help from the Commission members in the weeding of the beds would be appreciated.  Noted was the trimming of the evergreens and flowering crab apple trees around the Town Hall.  Also noted was the removal of the two flowering hawthorn trees near the Town hall and the request from the selectmen for a suggested replacement.  Suggested was the hearty variety of the J Magnolia. Donna Grenier would also be asked to see if she had any replacement suggestions.

 

Goshen Scenic Areas & Trail Brochure – Due to health issues Barnett Laschever reported that he had been unable to do any further work on the final draft of the brochure. Within the next few weeks, he and John Ross would meet to finalize the layout of the brochure.

 

Open Space Identification of Continuous Corridors – No further work done at this time.

 

Correspondence:  Notification from the CT. DEP relative to their approval of the excavation for construction of a pond on the Torrington Country Club Property.

 

Connecticut Association of Conservation & Inland Wetlands Commissions, Inc. - Received was the membership form for the period of July1, 2009 through June 30, 2010.  The membership form was filled out and would be submitted to the Fiscal Office for renewal for both the Conservation Commission and the Inland Wetlands Commission.  The cost for two Commissions is $100.00.

There was no further business to come before said meeting.  MOTION TO ADJOURN MADE BY Audra Allen, seconded by Barnett Laschever.  The meeting adjourned at 8:20 P.M.
