GOSHEN PUBLIC LIBRARY
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING
April 22, 2008
The meeting was called to order at 2:05PM. Present were Barney Laschever, Jeff Johnson, Cathy Nygren, Henrietta Horvay, Suzanne Mazzarelli and Director Lynn Steinmayer. Diana Bernard was excused.
Jeff made a motion to approve the minutes; it was seconded by Cathy.
CORRESPONDENCE: Lynn presented info received from the Interfaith Council of NW CT which may help in planning a program on comparative religions. She also received a letter from the NW CT Arts Council on fund-raising consultants.
DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Lynn said that the Gates Foundation would not be providing funds to us this year, as our “needs have been met.” Art work from Wamogo’s Goshen students will be hung in the library. She has planned a talk by a textile conservator who will check on the library quilt when she comes. Her report is attached.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Jeff advised that the Friends have donated $2000 to each of our special funds-the Endowment and the Advised.
OLD BUSINESS: Jeff reported on the vast amount of information presented at the State Public Library Construction Grant Funds workshop. $7 million is available with a maximum of $1million per grant. With the grant come many restrictions. Approval must first come from the First Selectman and a town meeting. It would be a long process. Our first step is getting feed-back from the town-wide survey being prepared by the Long Range Planning Committee.
A revised letter will be presented to the Finance Board supporting the need for an additional 6.5 hours staffing. This was reduced from our original request for 10 hours.
Lynn will speak with the Wamogo business teacher and Barney will speak to Joanne Ryan of the Chamber of Commerce concerning a talk by Sara Laschever on women in business.
At 3:40 PM, Henrietta made a motion to adjourn; it was seconded by Jeff.
Respectfully submitted,
Catherine A. Nygren
Secretary
