GOSHEN PUBLIC LIBRARY
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
MINUTES OF
September 16, 2008 MEETING
The meeting was called to order at 1:47PM. Present were Barney Laschever, Cathy Nygren, Henrietta Horvay, Diana Bernard and Director Lynn Steinmayer. Suzanne Mazzarelli and Jeff Johnson were excused.
Henrietta made a motion to approve the minutes of the August 19th meeting. It was seconded by Barney.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Barney mentioned that Sept. 24th is National Punctuation Day. A discussion was held concerning a stress on grammar and punctuation for the next writing contest. Lynn will speak to the English and History teachers at Wamogo if the Morris and Warren librarians are interested in participating in the contest.
DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Attached. Lynn will pick up movies from the Middletown Service Center since the CLC movie swap often has mediocre ones. Henrietta suggested that the Board thank John Alter for his involvement in the Page to Stage program. Diana said that the Well Educated Men should likewise be sent a thank you.
TREASURER’S REPORT: There was no Treasurer’s report due to Jeff’s absence and his not having yet received some bank information. He had e-mailed us that the profit from the book sale is close to $4000 but final figures were not yet determined. This would be the most raised due, in part, to the donation of the tent rental by one of Cathy’s business contacts who wished to remain anonymous.
COMMITTEES: There were no committee reports.
OLD BUSINESS: Only two entries were submitted for the writing contest. The winners will be announced on Oct. 1 @ 4PM, unless the time needs to be changed. Ernie Barker, Henrietta and Barney will judge the essays. Since we have three prizes for only 2 entrants, the gift certificate will be saved for the Poetry Contest in April which is Poetry Month. There will be an adult and children’s contest.
Barney will contact Suzanne about a change in our meeting time and date.
We need to publicize the reading of Huck Finn. Diana will read a chapter or two aloud to determine the average length.
At 2:48, Diana made a motion to adjourn; it was seconded by Henrietta.
Respectfully submitted,
Catherine A. Nygren
Secretary
