Minutes of Board of Directors Meeting

February 17, 2009

 

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 2:38 P.M.

 

PRESENT: Barney Laschever, Jeff Johnson, Diana Bernard, Cathy Nygren Lynn Steinmayer, Pat Reilly and via conference call Henrietta Horvay.

 

PRESIDENT’S REPORT. Barney Laschever welcomed new member Patrick Reilly to the board..

 

SECRETARY’S MINUTES: Motion to accept minutes of January 20, 2009 as amended  by Cathy Nygren seconded by Jeff Johnson.  Amended to say the  Harmon Fund will focus on all needs of the library.  Library report, the Paleontology classes are for grades 3-6 and can be up to age 12.  Motion passed by all present.

 

CORRESPONDENCE: Jeff Johnson received a letter from The Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut, Inc.

 

DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Lynn Steinmayer reviewed per report (attached).

Lynn spoke about the various programs for January and the reception for Wamogo Art Students.

Lynn stated the paleontology classes meets at 3:30 to 4:15 twice a month and has about 14 students. Lynn stated there will be a book discussion on the Classics. Month of April is Poetry month.  The poems will be posted in an area of the library and the poems will be read by school students.  There will be a reception.

Lynn discussed raising fees.  Discussion followed.

Motion was made by Jeff Johnson and seconded by Barney Laschever to  raise the fees as follows:

       B/W copies                                        COLOR copies         

         .20 a page                                         .30 a page     

        .10 student work                                .20 student work       effective February 23, 2009.

Motion passed by all present.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT:  Jeff Johnson submitted his report (attached).  Jeff spoke about the

Special Town Meeting on Monday February 23, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. where the item of the Expendable Trust will be transferred to the Capital Non-recurring Account.  There has been an account code assigned to these funds.  Jeff spoke about Endowment Funds.

Jeff presented the proposed Budget and asked if there were ways to cut.  Various line items were discussed.  There is a meeting of Alan Walker, Bob Valentine and Jeff Johnson on February 24 to discuss the Library Budget. Input is needed.  The budget Jeff prepared shows a net decrease of $3,625 for the 2009-2010 budget.

 

Jeff spoke about the wine tasting.  Jeff met with Judy Motel at Sunset Vineyards. We are restricted to 50 people. Cost of ticket will be $15.00: date May 16th from 5:30-7:30 P.M.  Food needs to be donated.  Lynn will get chocolates. Cathy will have Cabot Cheese. Door Prize?

 

ADJOURNMENT: Meeting adjourned at 4:00 P.M. Motion made by Barney Laschever and seconded by Jeff Johnson.  Motion passed by all present.
