BOARD OF DIRECTORS
MINUTES OF
August 19, 2008 MEETING

The meeting was called to order at 1:38PM.  Present were Barney Laschever, Cathy Nygren, Henrietta Horvay, Diana Bernard, Jeff Johnson and Director Lynn Steinmayer.  Suzanne Mazzarelli was excused.
Jeff made a motion to approve the minutes of the July 31 special meeting. It was seconded by Henrietta.  Lynn had checked with Rec Dept’s Dale Ives who said there would be no charge for us to use Camp Coch for a picnic.  The Mark Twain Reading of Huck Finn, will take place Mon., Oct. 13 from 10AM-8PM.  Lynn will set up the rules and will also check with the Mark Twain House for suggestions.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT: In a discussion of fund raising, Diana suggested that the Advised and Endowments Funds be publicized so that potential donors would be aware of them.
DIRECTOR’S REPORT:  Attached.  Lynn will check with Bob regarding Pam’s working from home a few hours a week until she is able to return.
TREASURER’S REPORT:  Jeff reported that both funds were doing reasonably well despite the financial market.  Only 3 checks are permitted to be drawn from the “801” accounts because it is a money market account, not a checking account. COMMITTEES:  The Long Range Planning Committee’s Survey Report was presented  showing that 75 surveys were returned.  Cathy made a motion, seconded by Henrietta, that the committee be placed in “hibernation.”  Barney thanked the committee members for their time and effort.
OLD BUSINESS:  Barney suggested that the deadline for the writing contest be extended to Sept. 15 due to lack of publicity at Wamogo before the end of school in June and the summer activities that may have prevented some from writing the essay.
A discussion was held about the “guilt” jar’s proceeds being donated to the Good Neighbor Fund rather than to a Torrington charity.  It was decided to have the money stay in Goshen.

At 2:38, Diana made a motion to adjourn; it was seconded by Cathy.

Respectfully submitted,

Catherine A. Nygren
Secretary
