Goshen Safety Committee Quarterly Meeting
August 27, 2009
Town Office Conference Room

Present: Sam Anstett, Kate Breakell, Dale Ives, Christopher Mitchell, Edward Perry and Bob Valentine

Call to Order: Chairman Christopher Mitchell called the meeting to order at 2:35 pm and welcomed new safety committee member Sam Anstett who is replacing Gary Kandefer.

Approval of the Minutes: Kate moved and Edward seconded that the minutes of the March 26th meeting be approved as read. Motion carried.

Matters Arising from the Minutes: none

New Business:

New Stop Sign at Intersection of Beach Street and Ives Road -Public Works Supervisor Edward Perry reported that a citizen had identified what he believed to be a safety issue at the intersections and the public works had responded by installing a Stop sign. Unfortunately, the new sign was then repeatedly stolen and replaced by public works. Installation of a security camera in that area caught the perpetrators who were then required to perform two days of community service.

ATV Accident Claim- Bob Valentine reported that the selectmen’s office had recently contacted the town’s insurance carrier and inquired about the on-going accident claim made by Tom Hubbard 4/28/09. It was learned that the claim had been closed in September of 2006 and Hubbard had been awarded $21,000. The resulting information identified our present gates as”makeshift barriers lacking in signage and reflectors.” While we don’t agree with their findings, it is now deemed prudent that two cattle gates with reflectors, signs and locks be installed to replace the existing gates. Bob further reported that the heavy duty gate at the end of officially closed Dog Pond Road where it intersects Town Hill Road now has a Road Closed sign as well as reflectors.

Library Exit Light above Handicapped Entrance- Kate reported that Town Fire Marshall Bill Baldwin had informed the library that an Exit light should be placed about the recently replaced double doors which lead to the courtyard and provide handicapped access. Bob and Chris were going to look into this matter.

Worker’s Compensation Incidents: none were reported for this quarter.

Adjournment: Bob moved and Edward seconded the motion that the meeting be adjourned at 2:52 pm. Motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,

Dale W. Ives, Secretary
