A big thank you to Edward Perry and Billy Gelormino of Goshen’s Public Work’s Department for plowing the surface of our outdoor skating area adjacent to the school parking lot and keeping it ready for skaters.


CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES:
Toddler’s Playgroup at Camp Coch- starting on September 14th volunteer mom Julia Turtoro began the free Monday morning get-togethers of little folks and their caregivers which meets from 9:30-11:00. It is a neat opportunity for socialization for both the kiddies and the adults. Interested in joining the fun? Call Julia at 201-4363.

Northwest Dance and Theater- as fall sports wind down, artistic director Kip DiPaolo reminds kids and their parents he is still accepting dance and acting sutdents into his programs.  This year's theater production will be Godspell with a year-end performance at the Forman School in Litchfield.

5th and 6th Grade Girl’s Basketball Travel Team- coaches Lisa Tillmann and Barry Anstett have again volunteered to work with this team on Tuesday and Thursday in the Goshen Center School Gym from 4:45 - 6:00 p.m.  They participate in the Northwest Basketball League and will play their home games in Goshen Center School Gym on Saturdays.

2nd Grade Basketball Skills - Dad, Michael Cardello will offer a hoops program for second grade boys and girls starting in January.

Pottery  Workshop - local potter Reggie DeLarim recently helped 24 children make a fall welcome sign.  Stay tuned for more details on an upcoming Christmas workshop.

Wamogo Recreation In-house Basketball Skills Program-  This long standing program is for both girls and boys in the Regional School District #6.  It is run Saturday morningns at WAMOGO High School from 9-11 a.m. starting December 5 running through March 6th 2010.  No programs on December 26th or January 2nd.  Cost is $50.  Instructors for this program are Mary Stolle AD, John Stolle and Laurene Lethbridge.

ADULT ACTIVITIES:

Adult Yoga with Jan Troy- certified instructor Jan Troy offers Anusara style yoga instruction at Camp Coch on two days. Monday evenings from 6-7:30 is for ongoing Level I and beginning Level II students and Wednesday am Level I for students who are new to yoga or want to relearn basic breathing, alignment, actions and the ‘spirit” of the practice from 9:15- 10:30. Adult Yoga with Wendy Larsen- Wendy offers two classes on Monday nights at Goshen Center School. From 6-7 will be Gentle/ Beginner followed by “sane and practical” yoga from 7-8pm. This second class is open for all levels. All classes are $10. Call Wendy at 738-9293.

Adult Cardio/Core Play Workouts- men and women of all fitness levels are welcome in instructor DeAnne Gauya’s classes on Tuesdays at 5:15-6:15 at Camp Coch. She teaches a fun and ultra-effective dance based class. Classes cost $100 for one class per week for an 8-week cycle or $15 per drop in class. She also teaches a non-Rec.Dept. sponsored class which is open to the public at the Woodridge Clubhouse on Thursdays from 5:15-6:15pm. Call DeAnne at 491-9197 for more information.

Cardio-Core Play Adult Exercise Classes- a new day, Friday, to come and experience a fitness fusion workout incorporating jazz, hip hop, aerobic dance, cardio, kick boxing, core-conditioning and agility training.  Classes are taught by certified instructior DeAnne Gauya either 4-5 pm or 5:15 - 6:15 p.m. . Senior’s Social Time- every Tuesday from 1-3 pm a fun group of Goshen’s “more experienced citizens” gathers in the Camp Coch lodge to socialize, play cards and board games and enjoy light refreshments. Call Susan Leigh at 491-4673 and she’ll even arrange a ride. Dreading cold weather and being cooped up? Get involved with this lively group! This is a combined venture with Goshen Community Care and Hospice and our Rec. Dept.

Men’s Hoops- volunteer supervisor Landon Gardella will be back on duty with men’s basketball again this year. There are two chances to play pick-up style hoops in the school gym - Sundays from 6:30-9:30 pm or Tuesdays from 6-9 pm for only $35 for the season, which runs until spring.

Women’s Volleyball- Lisa Tillmann will once again supervise those “rowdy gals” who enjoy playing volleyball and socializing each Monday evening in the school gym from 7:30-9:30 starting November 23rd. They will play until the end of March for a season’s fee of only $35.

Goshen Quilters- each Thursday morning at 10 a dedicated group of quilters gathers in the west wing of Camp Coch lodge to share their quilting techniques and enthusiasm for the craft. They make items to donate to various charities as well as work on personal projects. Sally Smith is their group leader; call her at 491-3784 for more information.

Goshen Quilter’s Guild- on the second Tuesday evening of each month a more formal group of quilting enthusiasts meets from 6:30-9pm.at Camp Coch. If you have interest in joining this group, contact President Sandy Wright at 491-4589.

Goshen is Great Shirts – the Rec. Dept. has a variety of adult and children’s sizes and colors of these very affordable ways to demonstrate your town spirit. They also make very inexpensive gifts at only $6 each.

DAY TRIPS:
Volunteer Angela Theriault served as our day trip coordinator for the past few years and did an excellent job.  She has stepped down recently.  Susan Breakell has come forth and will be working with a senior's group leader in Torrington to schedule furture day trips.

2010 Goshen Recreation Extended Stay Trip Offerings
The Goshen Recreation Department invites the public to participate in any of the following 2010 adventures. Trip brochures may be obtained by calling Dale Ives at 491-2249.

A Caribbean Repositioning Cruise- on April 11th board the Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Jewel for a 14-day  cruise starting in Miami and arriving in New York with 7 ports of call: Cozumel, Mexico, Belize City, Belize, Roatan, Honduras, Oranjestad, Aruba, Willemstad, Curacao and  Tortola, British Virgin Islands. A repositioning cruise has more days at sea than a normal cruise. This trip features three meals a day, a private cocktail party aboard ship and a nightly show. Double occupancy rates are as follows: inside cabin- $1,364, outside cabin with picture window $1,560 or balcony $1,800. This is a Tours of Distinction offering with bonuses for those who book by November 1st, 2009.

Canadian Rockies by Train-  on May 8th an awe inspiring 9-day Collette Vacations adventure departs from Bradley International. Swiss Highlights a Premier World Discovery  is offering an 8-day trip which departs on November 2nd and highlights Montreaux, Zermatt and the Matterhorn, Golden Pass Train, Lake Geneva, Bern City Tour, Interlaken, Castle of Chillon, Geneva City Tour, Gstaad, Gruyeres, Swiss Cheese Dairy and a Swiss Wine Tasting and dinner. Six nights will be spent at the Montreaux Palace -a gorgeous 5 star hotel overlooking the French Alps and Lake Geneva. Price per person double occupancy rate is $3,155. Trip cancellation or interruption insurance is available at $147 pp.

Italian Fest and Perry Como and Friends Show The Goshen Recreation Department invites the public to join the fun on Tuesday, April 20th as a deluxe coach bus heads for the Delaney House in Holyoke, MA for an Italian Fest. This day trip combines Italian cuisine and a show. The menu includes: hors d’oeurves tray, tossed salad, garlic breadsticks, homestyle lasagna, family style vegetables, a dessert platter of tiramisu, profiter rolls with amaretto fudge and chocolate covered cannolis and a petite bottle of wine. Following luncheon entertainer Jimmy Mazz will delight travelers with great music from Perry Como, Andy Williams, the Four Aces and Engelbert Humperdink. You’ll head for home humming favorite tunes like “Some Enchanted Evening”, “It’s Impossible”, “Moon River”, “Love is a Many Splendored Thing” and “ Man Without Love”.
