What happens if I pay late?

The first installment of dual installment real estate and personal property taxes in the amount of $100 or more and motor vehicle taxes in full are both due on July 1 and payable on or before August 1. The second installment of dual installment real estate and personal property taxes in the amount of $100 or more and supplemental motor vehicle taxes in full are both due on January 1 and payable on or before February 1.

In accordance with Connecticut General Statue (CGS) 12-146, past due payments are subject to interest at the rate of one and one half percent per month from the due date of the tax (July 1st or January 1st) with a minimum interest of $2.00. Payments made on August 2 for the July payments or February 2 for the January payments, including payments postmarked August 2 or February 2 and later, are past due and will incur 3% interest, representing two months’ delinquency (i.e. July & August or January & February). Payments postmarked August 1 or February 1 are considered timely. The Town is required by law to accept the postmark as the date of payment.
